Do's and Dont's for Parents

DO

Follow your own instincts and question things that make you uncomfortable

Seek alternative treatments for symptoms and conditions  (For example a pediatrician might say a child will grow out of colic when bodywork or herbal remedies might correct the problem)

Pay attention to your child*s body language (notice if they are constantly rubbing one spot, favoring one side, or are uncomfortable in clothing or shoes, etc.)

Imagine yourself in your child*s position (What would happen to your body if a giant dangled you by one arm in the air?  What would happen to your brain if a giant snapped your head back and forth?  How easy is it to walk with both your hands above your head?)

Listen if a child tells you they have pain, even if a medical doctor cannot find a reason.

Provide unstructured play and activity time so the child may learn how to use their body, deal with boredom, and use their imagination

DON'T

Assume a child will grow out of difficulties

Leave a child sitting or lying for long periods of time in the same position

Put headbands on small children, it can prevent the bones from going to their proper position

Jerk or shake babies or small children

Pull or dangle a small child by their arm or leg

Use television, computer and video games as a babysitter

Rush a child through the developmental stages, let them progress at their own rate
